Sunday, September the 24th
PRESENTATION OF THE BILL OF THE 19th WEEK OF CAVA

As it is traditional, in the setting of the 20th Wine and Cava Trade Fair of Catalonia that took place in the Maremagnum, Barcelona, on Sunday the 24th of September at 8:00 p.m., the Brotherhood of Cava of Sant Sadurní presented the bill of the 19th Week of Cava, work of the prestigious painter Perico Pastor. The Brotherhood president, Mr. Joan Juvé, directed some welcoming words to all the assistants, among which there was the Chapter Council of the Brotherhood of Cava and numerous Brotherhood members. Domingo Valiente, general manager of INCAVI, concluded the event accompanied by the falcons País del Cava.

Monday, October the 2nd
PRESENTATION OF THE 19th WEEK OF CAVA


The Palau Robert in Barcelona was this year the setting chosen by the Brotherhood of Cava to present the activities of the 19th Week of Cava.
The event, that took place on Monday the 2nd of October at 8:00 p.m., was presided by the General Manager of Agrarian Production and Rural Innovation of the Agriculture, Livestock and Fishing Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Mr. Xavier Coll, accompanied by the president of the Brotherhood of Cava from Sant Sadurní, Mr. Joan Juvé, and the president of Young Brotherhood Members, Dolors Monserrat. The event was also attended by Perico Pastor, author of the bill of the 19th Week of Cava, by members of the Chapter Council of the Brotherhood of Cava, Brotherhood members, personalities of the sector, journalists and other guests. After the press-conference all assistants were served cava and a cold dinner in the Palau Robert gardens.


Thursday, October the 5th
SHOP WINDOW CONTEST AWARD

The Shopkeepers Union handed the Shop Window Contest Award in the House of Cava. The event was attended by the president of the Shopkeepers Union, Mr. Salvador Bricollé, the Town Councillor for Commerce and Tourism from the Sant Sadurní Town Hall, Esther Parellada, and the Brotherhood Vice-president, Ramón Canals, besides of shopkeepers and Brotherhood members. This year, the awarded shop window belonged to Carafí Cake Shop, followed by Jepy bookstore and Amèlia florists. The event ended with a snack for all assistants.


Saturday, October the 9th
7th SHOW OF CAVA PLATES

Almost one thousand people from all over Catalonia gathered in the Caves Montesquius in Sant Sadurní for the 7th Show of Cava Plates organised by the Association of Cava Plates Collectors. Collectors, amateurs and curious people took part in an activity that every time draws more enthusiasts and admirers.

INAUGURATION OF THE PAINTING EXHIBITION
The exhibition at Index was inaugurated at 7:00 p.m with all paintings competing in the 19th Country of Cava Painting Contest. This year more than 60 works have been presented. The winner was "Still Life", by Valentí Lanza and the finalist was Admed Amrani with the painting "Riudevitlles 2000".

CORONATION OF THE QUEEN OF CAVA
This year's Queen of Cava, Miss Spain 2000, Helen Lindes, arrived to the cavist town accompanied by her ladies-in-waiting and escorted by the lancers' division of the Municipal Police from Barcelona. The Queen and her precession were led to the balcony of the Sant Sadurní Town Hall by the Gegants of Sant Sadurní, the Brass Band of Ascó, the Bastoners of Gelida, the bagpipes from the cultural association Amigos da Gaita, Totxos e Xestas de Barcelona, grapevine carriers, Falcons País del Cava and the Music Band form the Musical Association of Sant Feliu de Llobregat.
From the balcony of the Town Hall, and addressing to a packed square, Alfred Rodríguez Picó, the famous weatherman of TV3 and Catalunya Radio, delivered a proclamation with meteorological flavour. After that, the sadurninian Silvia Mir crowned Helen Lindes as Quen of Cava 2000. Beside her, the president of the Brotherhood of Cava, Joan Juvé, inaugurated the 19th Week of Cava, and together with the mayor of Sant Sadurní, Joan Amat, and the rest of the Brotherhood members offered the new Queen a glass with the first must of the year's grape harvest, pressed by the students of the Sant Sadurní schools.
Eventually, the Queen of Cava was offered a magnificent firework and the event was closed with cava and the typical coca for everybody and a performance by the Music Band of the Musical Association of Sant Feliu de Llobregat and the bagpipes of the Amigos da Gaita, Totxos e Xestas.
Next, the retinue headed the headquarters of the Brotherhood of Cava in Torreramona, when this year's proclaimer, Alfred Rodríguez-Picó, the journalists and writers Fernando Diaz-Plaja, Enrique Vivas, Jose M. Iñigo and the popular actor Angel Pavlovsky were conferred the title of Merit Brotherhood Members. After that, an Honour Dinner was served, in the course of which took place the award ceremony of the 19th País del Cava Painting Contest.
At the same time, in the Ateneu of Sant Sadurní, and on the occasion of the Great Young Night of Cava, attained by around four thousand people, there was a concert with the bands De Noche, The Companys and Bambú. In the end, all assistants were offered Cava, the typical coca and a commemorative cava glass for the 19th Week of Cava.

Sunday, 8th October
RECITAL BY THE CATALAN SINGER-SONGWRITER MIQUEL PUJADOR

At 7 p.m. all sadurninians could enjoy an excellent recital by the Catalan singer and songwriter Miquel Pujador, accompanied by Marcel Casellas, double bass, and Conrad Setó, accordion.

Monday, 9th October
GREAT GASTRONOMIC DINNER AT MONT-FERRANT CELLARS

The traditional gastronomic dinner that year by year joins together many well-known Catalan restaurants and gastronomy-loving people took place in the Mont-Ferrant Cellars in Blanes. The first guests arrived at 8 p.m., and they enjoyed a guided visit round the installations. Meanwhile, in the gardens, the guests were offered a generous snack and a cava glass.
The dinner was served by the restaurants "Santa Marta" from Lloret, "El Maño" from Navaleno (Soria), "S'auguer" from Blanes, "Peixerot" from Vilanova i la Geltrú, "El Trull" from Lloret, "Cau del Vinyet" from Sitges, and Jaume Urgellés from the Cardona Cake-Shop in Corbera de Llobregat. The service was provided by the Matas Amalot Group.
The menu consisted of an aperitif with Lobster mousse and fresh cheese, Salmon and asparagus with tartar sauce, Pickle with coast angler fish, Ham with figs and spun egg, Shellfish skewer with basil, Sea fruits cromesqui, Grated clams with Cava and Codfish vol-au-vent and ham crostillant, accompanied with Cava Mont-Ferrant Brut Rosé. After the aperitif, the guests were offered a Carpaccio of marinated mushrooms with oil and cava vinegar, accompanied with Cava Mont-Ferrant Brut Reserva RD 1996, followed by a Duck micuit with Cava gelatine accompanied with Cava L'Americano. The third dish consisted in a Lobster bisque washed down with Marc de Cava and Cava Magnum de Mont-Ferrant, followed by a Wreckfish fillet with Cava and oil baked potatoes accompanied with Cava Blanes Nature 1996, and, finally, Stewed quail with Cava and grapes accompanied with Cava Mont-Ferrant Brut Nature 1996.
The dessert, sweet as the tradition dictates, consisted in a Cava semi-cold with custard and berries accompanied with Cava Mont-Ferrant Gran Cuvée 1996. All Cavas were served by Blue Mountain, and all guests were offered Marc de Cava.
After the dinner there was the Gastronomic Investitures celebration and the event ended with a music show by the artists from Scenic Barcelona.

Wednesday, 11th October
18th CAVA CONGRESS

This year, the International Cava Congress opened its doors to about two hundred people, among which one counted professionals, oenologists, teachers and students, who devoted the day to discuss aspects related to the world of Cava. The Congress opening speech was performed by Mr. Josep Lluís Bonet, in the name of the Chamber of Commerce, and the Congress chairman was the president of the Oenologists Associtation, Mr. Carles Playà. The Brotherhood of Cava from Sant Sadurní and the Universitat Rovira i Virgili signed a cooperation agreement. The closing speech was performed by Mr. Gustau García Guillament, the General Manager of Agrarian Production and Rural Innovation of the Agriculture, Livestock and Fishing Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Finally, there was a lunch for all assistants in the Sol i Vi Restaurant.

Thursday, 12th October
6th PÉTANQUE CONTEST

At 9 a.m., in the playground from Balmes School, began the 6th Pétanque Contest Week of Cava, with the presence from six clubs: CP Sant Sadurní, CP Vilafranca, CP Torrelles de Foix, CP Daltmar (Olèrdola), CP Canyelles and CP Arboç. Eventually, the entrants obtained the respective prizes.

TRAIN OF CAVA
Like every year, on October the 12th, the special País del Cava Train (the 19th, this year) left the Sants Train Station in Barcleona, crowded with more than one thousand people from Barcelona and its surroundings. During the trip, cava was offered to all travellers, who were entertained by the Ascó Brass-band and the batucada from Tubarao, Brazil.
On their arrival to Sant Sadurní, all travellers were met by the Chapter Council of the Brotherhood of Cava and by its president Joan Juvé, the geganters from Sant Sadurní, the geganters from Amposta, the geganters from Sant Cugat del Vallés, the geganters from the Solsona Carnival and the grallers from Pontons. The retinue headed the Town Hall Square and, once there, the travellers visited all the town cellars, since that's the only holiday in which they are all open.
At noon, a large meal was offered in the Ateneu Arena, entertained by the Orchestra Els Àngels. At about 6 p.m. the Cava Train returned to Barcelona.

SARDANA CONCERT
In the Town Hall Square, at 1.30 p.m., sardana lovers gathered in a sardana ball performed by the Cobla Catania.

Friday, 13th June
AUTUMNAL INVESTITURE

On Friday night, the headquarters of the Brotherhood of Cava in Torreramona showed its best face to celebrate the traditional Autumnal Investiture.
The president of the Brotherhood of Cava, Mr. Joan Juvé, accompanied by the Chapter Council, authorities, numerous Brotherhood members and the falcons of Cava, welcomed the Queen of Cava 2000, Helen Lindes, and the Honourable President from the Parlament de Catalunya, Mr. Joan Rigol, who was conferred the title of Honour Brotherhood Member. Other personalities were also conferred the title of Merit Brotherhood Members: Francesc Vendrell, General Director of Relations with the Spanish Parliament and Representative for the Parlament de Catalunya; Ramon Condal, vice-president of the Real Club Esportiu Espanyol; Joan Castells, President of FIATC and vice-president of Fútbol Club Barcelona; Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas, Dean of the Lawyer's College of Barcelona; Mª Josep Rosselló, dietician; Magda Oranich, lawyer; Pablo Peñalba, president of the Regulative Council of the D.O. Ribera del Duero; Perico Pastor, author of the bill of the 19th Week of Cava; and Paul C. Schine. Because of the rain, the event could not be celebrated in Torreramona Square, as traditionally, and had to be moved to the inside of the House of Cava, something that did not take its brilliance away.
During the Investiture Ceremony of the Brotherood of Cava, the new Honour Brohterhood Member, and the new Merit Brotherhood Members and Cavalier Brotherhood Members pledged allegiance to Cava.
After the investiture, all assistants were offered an excellent gala dinner in the honour of the new Brotherhood members, that ended with a performance by the Coral Sant Sadurní, in its 25th anniversary.

Saturday, 14th October
YOUNG AUTUMNAL INVESTITURE

On Saturday night, in the headquarters of the Brotherhood of Cava in Torreramona took place the Autumnal Investiture of the Young Cava Brotherhood of Sant Sadurní. This year, the youngest Representatives from the parties with parliamentary representation in the Parlament de Catalunya were conferred the title of Honour Brotherhood Members: Daniel Serra from the Partit Popular, Josep Rull from Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya, Antoni Castellà from Unió Democratica de Catalunya, Carme Porta from Esquerra Republicana, Marc López from the Partit Socialista de Catalunya - Ciutadans pel Canvi, and Joan Boada from Iniciativa per Catalunya.
The journalists Francesc Marc Álvaro and Gaspar Hernández, the young businessman Josep Novell (from Cafès Novell), Oriol Castro, restaurateur from the Restaurant Bulli and Ricardo Medina, sommelier from the Restaurant Can Gaig, were conferred the title of Young Merit Brotherhood Members.
The investiture act served, at the same time, as a celebration for the 15th birthday of the Young Cava Brotherhood, with the first meeting of former members from the Young Brotherhood Board, who were distinguished by the Young Brotherhood with its insignia. The event was attended by HRH Alexia from Greece, who was awarded the golden insignia of the Young Brotherhood, and her husband, the architect Carlos Morales.
